BIG MARTY IS MY IDOL
Jamie Scott's alter ego, Big Marty, is on the eve of releasing his second EP after last years "Murd and Base". Murd and Base was a solid start, with the highlights being of the sampling of tetris and his re-working of igneous classic "Mad Mental Martin Hardy". Minus these two however, murd and base kept to the same formula. In the new release, "In Yr Base, Killing Yr Doods" Marty delves into more experimental territory. But does he pull it off?
The answer is a resounding yes. The melodies are sweeter, the lyrics are wittier and there are some clever touches in between. "Intro" is hysterically convincing and a clever start to the EP. The second track, "The Munich Mannequins " is Marty's greatest song tonight with a powerful melodic core. Marty then turns satirical on the following 2 tracks, poking fun at charity records on "The Ballad of Harry Chibber......" and shows a clever insight on the culture of teenage driving on "Fiat Tipo". "Pig Man" features Marty's funniest line to date however this is followed by "Emo Mosh Mosh" the only slight dissapointment on the cd. In contrast, "Hero of the School" features classic guest voices on the track (in particular, the last entrance) and "Captain serious Has Gun Eyes" rounds off the cd positively with Marty almost breaking into falsetto (Almost).
I haven't gone in to great detail for any of the tracks and it would be unfair to spoil the suprise that awaits the listener of the cd. "In Yr Base, Killing Yr Doods" features some of Jamie Scott's greatest work to date and establishes Big Marty's work as some of the most important to come out of the McLaren Bands history.
