Hello everyone!
I've decided it's time I got out there and did some solo acoustic gigs. Problem is, I have no idea where. Has anyone got any ideas of any places that many want a solo acoustic guitarist to do a set? I'm really willing to play anywhere - pubs, restaurants, bus shelters, submarines.... Truth is I'm more interested in getting experience than I am in getting money.
Any help would be totally appreciated!
PS - You bands who've played at the Tolbooth - how did you manage to land a gig like that? Were you asked to do it, or did you have to advertise yourself to the Tolbooth?

I think you have to give the tollbooth a demo and ask them. I can't really think of anywhere, but I'll keep you posted. I expect to see you playing IBIATCJ though....

Hey Panda. I don't know much about the acoustic scene atall but here's a bunch of guys that put on acoustic gigs round glasgow/edinburgh. Basically, I'd call them, be honest and say you're new to it but be confident (have a quick description of yourself ready) and be ready to send them a demo CD with a short bio. Basic rules for demo CD: your contact details on the cover and the actual CD, just two or three of your fave songs, simple cheap but reasonably attractive artwork (try be a bit creative if you can). some of the contacts are just phone numbers or emails or something, you can decide what to do yourself, but generally a phone call will be more effective than anything else. I'd also get a myspace account cause it's a brilliant way to network. This guy: www.myspace.com/davejburns gigs alot ont he acoustic scene and he is/was based in stirling. so check out the gigs he's doing and add him as a friend when you get myspace. The Mixing Rooms, Glasgow Martyn Hunter e-mail martyn_hunter@msn.com www.myspace.com/martyn_fadestrippedgigs@gmail.com Brunswick Cellars, Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow Ian ShoogaKube 07816751168 shoogakube@hotmail.com Peter Michael Rowan RBL Music 16 Teviotdale Place Edinburgh EH3 5HY mail@rblmusic.com www.rblmusic.cominfo@goatclub.net www.goatclub.netThere's also the whole Open Mic route you can go down which is pretty relaxed and cool, good for building experience. You just gotta show up at the venue on the right night at the right time, tell the guy who looks in charge that you want to play, then you do your thing. Here's a couple. www.goatclub.netEvery Wednesday D-one, 48-52 Constitution Street, Leith. contact: taylormademusic@blueyonder.co.uk www.taylormademusic.co.ukevery wednesday elbo room, 1008 argyl street, finnieston, glasgow www.elboroom.co.uk/just found another girl on myspace who does acoustic gigs locally, check out her listings too: www.myspace.com/andreamarinigood luck, i'll let you know if i see anything else

Cheers for all this info Rob, much appreciated! I'll definately check out some of these places. Only problem with playing in Glasgow is transport, but I'm pretty sure I could sort something out if it was just for a one off kind of thing.
Tolbooth require a demo you say? No problemo - they'll be receiving a CD shortly!
