Last night was the launch of BiG Marty'a debut album. It was held at the forest cafe in edinburgh, whichis a place where a bunch of tree huggers like marty hang out and expect everything in life to be free. it was a great launch party. although this was marty's first 'out the bedroom' gig and many were sceptical, it proved a great success. he managed to keep it real by getting his producer laurence george in to do the sound and inviting me. alcohol was involved so marty's banter was more hilarious than it has ever been. it was a great atmoshphere. supporting he had edinburgh pal 'occasional flickers' who played nice twee indie pop and 'andrew can't' who is the singer from glasgow band Gdansk rocking his electronic/guitar anthems.
as i said, big marty was really on form tonight. everyone was loving it for all the reasons you're supposed to love big marty. he's adorable. he played alot of his new stuff and a few hits but the setlist was cut short when the cops came to shut big marty down because his lyrics were too politically controversial. he continued to play but THE MAN got to him by cutting off various pieces of equipment that he needed. it was an honourable finish to any punk rock gig anyway. here's some photos of the man in action.
i think this goes some of the way to summing up how good the performance was.
after the show we tried to get in to shag tag but we were too ugly so we went to some of marty's regular drinking haunts.
marty even displayed heroics when saving lauren from a couple of dirty perverts. he's turning in to quite a fine young man.
all in all a great night and he released a great album too! only £2 and you get like 18 tracks and colour artwork!!! he's gone all out. some of the tracks are absolutely brilliant. I think marty manages to bring out alot of his darker side and also alot of his emo side. there's still plenty of comedy and plenty of banging beats. the beats are noticably better than ever on the album. there's some nice sh!t in there. anywya, if you can get your hands on it, definitely buy the album. big marty is still on fire.
