Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who bought the pre-release ep. We should have the finalised edition to you after the summer.

Callum can i once again point out that no one is going to buy the same set of recordings twice just because one of them has pre release written on it and the other has ep written on it. if you wanted to let people hear your stuff before u release the ep you should have just put a demo on the net. Yeah Callum is an idiot, there may be more recordings on the final version. Depending on whether we finish this new song were working on, we're already about 6 minutes into it and just starting the second part.

www.myspace.com/prodigalsonmusicYeah. The demo is up on the net. Callum is an idiot Ahwell, only thing to look forward in the "real" demo now is The Riot Cover art and possibly a new song (as tutin has said). Perhaps some keyboard action mixed into teh Prodigal Son Musak aswell. Plus, David. you have been smitten for using the word twat rather than cunt or Jewbang ^_^. Breaking swear filters is fun

Yeah, Callum said we can record the new song, which I have finished MYSELF (with a small aid from bang) Scott due to no-one else (Jamie) bothering to help. And Jamie you cannot refuse to play the riffs (as is his custom) seeing as you didn't help.
And yeah, breaking swear filters is the f***in' s***!

why would you have a pre-release ep? doesnt that mean you dont sell as many copies cause you've limited your potential market?

20 people. I also think, anyone who bought the Pre Ep will be getting a free or atleast alot cheaper version of the actual proper EP (when it indeed gets done) Also the money that was raised shall be going towards, burgers......and beer. awesome. PS. lol, potential market. EDIT. I'd also Like to mention that we're now upon bebo aswell as myspace. Prodigalsonmusic.bebo.comwww.myspace.com/prodigalsonmusicSo If your on either, a view, a listen, a comment, an add would be really nice

Yeah. The EP is actually going to have 2-3 new songs on it. So yeah, people will be buying about an albums worth of material.
I'd say that's worth the probable 3-4 quid.
Ps, this place has died. shame.

3-4 quid? that's a bit of a rip wouldn't u say. how much are you spending on the cd manufacture? prodigal son have sold out and are no longer thinking of the fans.

Post by F.Vincent on Sept 3, 2006 21:21:43 GMT
i would say you did, and did it the right way.
3-4 pounds is a total rip, it represents neither the quality or prestige of the band. for an unsigned, unknown band such as yourselves to be selling at such a high price is ridiculous, the purpose of such a recording is to spread the word of the band, get the music out there. But by trying to rip a profit out of it, you're really reducing its efficiency at doing this. When i go to a gig, and i kinda like a band, and they have cds on sale, price becomes the real issue. If the cd is a pound or so, its no big deal to just fork out that pound and give it a go. Might be good, might be bad, but it has the potential to radically change my perception of the band. If its 3 or 4, and i only liked the band a bit, its not worth my while, but the cd could have been f***ing awsome! If selling it for 3 or 4 quid is only just covering the production costs, then yer gonna need to re-think the way your going about it. Think simple, full colour booklets, and el cases are pretty unecessary, romp the cost up, and as i say, people wont be so keen to splash out on a whim (you've caught their interest, gotta reel em' in). If your really gonna work it up, get gigs, and be serious about being a band, you should be selling the cd for a lot less, but if your just wanking about, then you can rip-off your friends all you want, i wont be buying anything at that price, a cd is pretty much always worth it for a pound.

Well, The pricing is just my thoughts to be honest doesn't mean the rest of the band has agreed with it. If it was effective to do so, I'd give it out for free. But personally I'm looking at ways to make money for some decent studio recording time. So that the music has a better production (no fault to callum here though). Which I'm sure the fans would enjoy more.
I like good sounding audio. that's all. And there's only a certain quality you can reach when not spending money. (okay sure 4 quid is excessive I guess, but 3 quid for a cd ain't too bad, even if the band is unsigned, then again, that's just my opinion) (and if your wondering why I constantly say quid, it's because my keyboards in american mode thus I don't have a pound sign) I'm not sure rob either, but I seem to remember Recc Demos costing 3 quid back in the day, may be mistaken though.
Perhaps I'm just wanting too much for our music at this early stage, but I'd prefer to have a song recording perfect than have a half baked pile of Sh!t that isn't all it can be due to not having the production values to it.
Just my personal view here. But your views have been taken on board. So we'll see.

yeah recc were sell out bstrds so probably did sell the first ep for £3 or £3.74 or something stupid but we were foolish thingystuffing bstrds. in hindsight, f. vincent's advice is gold. you shouldn't be looking to make money off your fanzzz to raise funds for studio recording. you should get jobs or use christmas money, mooch off your parents. i know yous aren't all exactly broke. if it's good then you can only benefit from getting it to as many people as possible. give it away online for free in mp3 format and sell it as a physical format at a quid to make sure people who take it actually listen to it and to cover the costs of cdr's and printing.

aye, if you pay for something you're more likely to enjoy it. fact. free cds are a no-no but mp3s online are all good.
In case i didn't mention i did enjoy the demo, callum's production's pretty good.

Whey! It's all down to opinion and taste. Some people like the stuff we make, some others don't, and some just thinks it's meh.
So yes we have made some good music in some peoples opinions, and no we haven't (obviously your opinion there then) in others.
cheers for the comment

Just thought I'd better update. Right now, progress is slow. But it is slowly moving forward Lyrics are being written, Synth is being added, Songs are being taken apart bit by bit, and put back together to get them sounding better. Recording is slow aswell due to a lack of properly working guitars. But what can I say, It'll be done when it's done. I also know i'm an a$$hole for saying that. what an ego eh. Another thing I could mention is the talks of Hate Complex being Reformed. Tutin and myself want to do some heavier stuff, which wouldn't be suitable for prodigal son. (Lots of beasting blast beats and the good ol death metal vocals you can't understand and hate). As I said, all talks still, and I doubt anyone would really care. So there you go. Keep tuned, something will turn up eventually. (and yes, I'm going to attempt to get another thornhill show organised some time in the close future)

would the reformed hate complex include the legendary ben pickering? and panda for that matter?

Post by Tutin on Oct 4, 2006 19:56:20 GMT
Probably not, no. Ben lives in glasgow and Panda obviously has no interest in death metal judging by the lack of it on his soundclick page. Basically it's me and Scott as Jamie doesn't seem to like the idea of writing anything that isn't gay and softcore. I.e. Prodigal son style.
And yes it was the synth one Scott.
